Gaps between integers with the same prime factors

چکیده
We give numerical and theoretical evidence in support of the conjecture of Dressler that between any two positive integers having the same prime factors there is a prime. In particular, it is shown that the abc conjecture implies that the gap between two consecutive such numbers a < c is a1/2− , and it is shown that this lower bound is best possible. Dressler’s conjecture is verified for values of a and c up to 7 · 1013.

Finding prime pairs with particular gaps
By a prime gap of size g, we mean that there are primes p and p + g such that the g − 1 numbers between p and p + g are all composite. It is widely believed that infinitely many prime gaps of size g exist for all even integers g. However, it had not previously been known whether a prime gap of size 1000 existed. The objective of this article was to be the first to find a prime gap of size 1000,...
متن کاملON COMPOSITION FACTORS OF A GROUP WITH THE SAME PRIME GRAPH AS Ln(5)
The prime graph of a finite group $G$ is denoted by$ga(G)$. A nonabelian simple group $G$ is called quasirecognizable by primegraph, if for every finite group $H$, where $ga(H)=ga(G)$, thereexists a nonabelian composition factor of $H$ which is isomorphic to$G$. Until now, it is proved that some finite linear simple groups arequasirecognizable by prime graph, for instance, the linear groups $L_...
متن کاملSe p 20 06 Small gaps between products of two primes
The phenomenon that we cannot specify which one of the two equations (1.3) and (1.4) has infinitely many solutions (in reality most probably both, naturally) is the most significant particular case of the parity problem, a heuristic principle stating that sieve methods cannot differentiate between integers with an even and an odd number of prime factors. This principle is based on some extremal...
متن کاملOn the Maximal Length of Two Sequences of Consecutive Integers with the Same Prime Divisors
The initial motivation of the present paper is the following problem of Erd6s and Woods, whose solution would be of interest in logic (see [3, 6, 11, 10, 16]): Does there exist an integer k >=2 with the following property : i f x and y are positive integers such that for l<=i<=k, the two numbers x+ i and y+i have the same prime factors, then x=y. For each integer n->2, let us denote by Supp (n)...
متن کاملSome Diophantine Properties of the Sequence of S-units
Integers having no prime factors outside a fixed set of primes play important role and are heavily investigated in several parts of number theory. For example, they play special role in diophantine number theory; see e.g. the classical survey paper of Evertse, Győry, Stewart and Tijdeman [1] or Chapter 1 of the book of Shorey and Tijdeman [7] and the references given there. Further, the sequenc...
